Test of Iron - Space Marines

The Test of Iron. A 609th Armored detatchment sets out from Tempestus Hive to engage and destroy all enemy targets. The question; is 'tank spam' all that bad?
The first battle, engaging marine forces in a nearby industrial zone.
Deployment consisted of the Imperial tanks in position for a 'scissor' attack, the marines deployed a dread and a land raider, slim targets.
Much of the armor moved forward under the screen of smoke launchers, the others placed their shots well.
Contact was made, the marines employed drop pods to deploy the core of their forces.
A miscalculation was made, causing a pod to land in the Imperial fire-zone.
*that does not look like a loyalist....*
Crimson 1 was first out, their transport having been melta'd. With fresh magazines they prepared to return fire.
As the Imperial reprisal began in earnest, terminators appeared behind the line. Multiple target-locks immediately re-prioritized.
As the exterminator and dreadnought collided, more abominations began to show in the marine ranks...
The Lord Commissar and the Wolf-Pack went to engage the terminators. Their plasma weapons, supported by tank-fire, was the best solution.
Missiles and battle-cannon rounds simply bounced off the land raider's hull as it placed killing shots into the Imperials, it was refusing to be wounded.
The melee between the veterans and terminators intensified as tanks exploded around them. The presence of the commissariat was pivotal in keeping morale up.
Casualties were mounting on both sides. The once populated battlefield was getting scarce.
The sheer horror of the spider-marines was enough for many gunners to miss as they casually walked through waves of promethium.
The land raider had to die, the Knight Commander was the only gun left to do the job, but line of sight was slim.
The tank commander was up to the challenge, placing a kill-shot on the marine vehicle.
The marines were gaining more kills than the Imperials, but not by much. Both sides threw themselves against the enemy with everything they had left...
As the great plumes of smoke cleared, the marines had earned a close victory with one more kill-point than the Imperials.

Last Saturday

This Saturday the Wolfram undertook the Test of Iron.

"Hahahaha, b**ch!!!"

"I know I always ask this, but we are sure these are our hostiles??"

Brother Metalon, for his arrogance, gets punked in the rear armour on a found sight line. The Orphan turrets, soon claiming a Russ with its lascannons!

Nosteromo's drop pod gets nudged by the winds and he lands at one end of the urban canyon.

"Prepare for some flaming pie..."

He tries to raise a psychic ward, but is frustrated. Flipping the offending tank with his combi-melta, he finally gets to see his enemies, puny men.

"Morus!! Get your tin ass down here!"

Kyoob sets down in the canyon, diverting a fireteam to the Guardsmen. He weasels around the superstructure into cover, waiting for the Orphan to have a fire magnet accident; but she continues to be impregnable...

Behind the enemy line, the Eight deep-strike in and sell their ceramite skins dearly.

One by one, the combat squads are eliminated by infantry and tank fire. Then Pask destroys the Orphan utterly with a skilled one-timer. Kyoob shakes his many fists at the venerable commander...

... while across the battlefield, Spider Marines fall from the sky on silk string parachutes. Their leader falls, and dies. But the remaining four ruthlessly scuttle forwards on their pointy limbs to destroy two tanks by meltabombing, as Brother Ant cheers them on from atop his damaged legs.

"Yaay! Go, go, go you little freaks!!!!"

The game ended with 7 to 6 kill points in my favour. Wow!!

"Yes, that was very well done, and you are free to go with honour restored. May I just have your name, sir."

Assault on Death Mt. - Part Two

Part Two - The End.
Smoke was rising from all over the battlefield, the bodies were starting to pile. The ork doc and his mob powerclawed the landraider to pieces in an attempt to get at the marines inside. Artios and one lone psyker prepared to make an account of themselves.
The Imperials were not going to make this easy...
Although they were all shot down, the lone deff-coptas were making a mess with their rokkits.
From the towers the 609th Command directing holy artillery fire and misdirecting enemy reinforcements. These proved invaluable during the battle.
The marines dove into the orks with boltpistol and combat knives seeking retribution for their landraider.
Although bruised, the defenders still held.
The ork bikers broke through the defense line. Imperial guns were hard-pressed to reduce the numbers of the invaders.
The berserkers found themselves in the middle of a storm of fire. Heretic forces were marshaling around the landing pad.
The raptor champion proved impossible to kill. He continued to harass the leman russ parked at the base of the mountain while dodging battle cannon and heavy bolter rounds.
Ork nobs, led by two warbosses, directly assaulted Death Mt. After the previous casualties, these brutes were nearly impossible to bring down.

Artios joined the Wolfram marines in the assault upon the bikers to retake the gate.
The chaos forces brought more terminators in to support Mr. Huggy's assault. Ivory Command was shredded by the daemon prince after they melted the quadruped.
The orks seemed determined to kill Artois, the blasts of lightning angering the brutes. He fell, but not without a fight.
With a battle-cry, 609th Command assaults the nobs in a desperate attempt. The orks crushed the humans with power claws and took the bunker.
The thunderer got Mr. Huggy's attention, the chaos forces focusing upon the imperial ordinance, smashing through wreckage and shrugging off heavy weapon fire.
The secondary bastion was still held by devastators and a mortar squad. Grimly, they set to placing kill-shots, making each round count.
The vanquisher Apotheosis was badly crippled, but still had a working lascannon, which did nothing. It did block the door nicely.
The area around the secondary bastion was cleared with heavy fire and automated weapons.
Orks held the mountain and half the gate and chaos heavies were dug in --
The battle ended in a draw, which means...
another battle must be fought! Until next round....
